30637BRGeography & Atmo Science Position Overview The Department of Geography and Atmospheric Science at the University of Kansas invites applications for a Multi-term Lecturer. Responsibilities will include teaching courses in Physical Geography including a number of our lower-level introductory courses (both in-person classes and online curriculum) and our upper-level physical geography and geospatial techniques courses as appropriate. Duties also include assisting with the training, supervision, and evaluation of department teaching assistants and contributing to departmental governance of the Department of Geography and Atmospheric Science. The ideal candidate would have a strong disciplinary background in Physical Geography and Geospatial Techniques together with expertise in STEM pedagogy. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment. Job Description Teaching/Advising (1.0 FTE) Teaches a minimum of four courses per semester (fall and spring sessions). One or more courses per year may include team-teaching with another faculty member in a course as part of a course transformation project. Participates in curriculum development efforts. Develops and updates syllabi, study guides, instructor's guides, test questions, tests, web-based and online material. Participates in regular meetings of departmental instructors. Implements the use of technology in the teaching of courses. Holds regular office hours for students involved in classes taught. Supervises the GTAs responsible for laboratory sections or coordinates the unit's GTA supervision program (as appropriate). Adheres to department, College, and university policies and procedures. Collaborates with the Geography and Atmospheric Science department's administration and faculty to develop and implement curriculum changes. This includes partnering with faculty members to teach and implement mechanisms for improving student learning, engagement, and retention in all courses. Supports the development of teaching excellence in faculty and GTAs. Assists with training, supervision, and evaluation of department's teaching assistants. Required Qualifications Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in c.v., (3) a statement describing your teaching philosophy and (4) information provided from three professional references. M.S./M.A. in Geography or closely related field, with a background in physical geography and geospatial techniques (GIS/remote sensing). Record of excellence in teaching college-level geography courses. Demonstrated excellent organizational and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to work well with students, faculty, and administrators. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
